You have to know who you are marketing to, period. What kind of people are they? What do they do? What do they hate?
You cannot just say I am marketing to everyone. That’s like taking your money, and handing it out on the street. I’m just going to take a guess that most of us here cannot afford to market to everyone.
If you want an example of Marketing to everyone, next time you’re in the post office, take a look at the recycling bin. I grab my mail, everything that looks uninteresting or not important gets chucked, why? I am not their target audience. I cannot afford to build a new metal shed, I’m not looking to buy a new car, I don’t want a fast cash loan.
Here’s your action item –
Take a look at your business, your products and services and determine the type of people you are marketing to. How do they communicate, which forms of advertising do they like, what level of service do they want, how do they want to get a hold of you, what price are they willing to pay? The list of questions that you can ask is unending, but the goal is to get started so you can make better marketing decisions.
